Steel:
The surface should be blast cleaned to SSPC-SP10-63T or NACE No.2 i.e. loose rust and scales, dirt, grease, oil, paint, wax, weak oxide films and other contaminants should be removed. Blast cleaning to SSPC-SP-5-63 or NACE No.1 is recommended where heavy corrosive conditions exist. That means a surface with a grey white, uniform metallic color, slightly roughened to form a suitable anchor pattern for coatings. The surface is free of all oil, grease, dirt, mill scale, rust, corrosion products, oxides, paint and other foreign matter. In absence of blast cleaning, prepare the metal surfaces by removing loose mill scale, rust and loose paint by wire brushing, sanding, scrapping or chipping by hand or power tools.
Zinc, Aluminium, Galvanized Iron:
Remove all oil, grease, dirt, old paint, oxides and other foreign matter by wiping, etching or scrubbing with brushes. Degrease the surface with the degreasing solvents like xylene or tri-chloroethylene.
Application:
Do not apply wash primer at a heavier film than 8 microns. Otherwise, lack of adhesion in the coating system may result. Anuprime - 291 dries rapidly after application. It can be re-coated after 30 minutes and the maximum re-coating interval should not exceed 6 hours. If the maximum re-coat time exceeds, it must be re-primed. Mix Base and Accelerator in equal parts by volume and stir thoroughly for 4-5 minutes. The pot life is 4 hours only. After this time, the mixture may appear usable, but it will not provide satisfactory adhesion.
Anuprime - 291 Wash Primer can be top-coated with alkyd, chlorinated rubber, vinyl, epoxy, polyurethane and acrylic latex coatings. It is recommended that topcoats of acrylic modified nitro-cellulose lacquers shall first be tested for adhesion in small area. |
